Longevity - A commitment to quality service

Small passenger services have existed in various forms dating back to the 17th century. In 1897, the first motorised taxi service was launched offering customers the convenience of door-to-door service. The development of ride-sharing services began in the late 1990s with the rise of internet-based services. These services allow customers to book a ride and pay for it electronically through their mobile devices, revolutionising the way people travel around cities. The industry has seen tremendous growth in recent years and the longevity of this industry will depend on the ability companies have to innovate and stay competitive in a rapidly changing market.

The small passenger service industry is facing significant changes. The positive changes include the emergence of traditional operators, who have embraced technology to improve their services, as well as the rise of rideshare and taxi companies. The negative changes include the lack of regulation and enforcement, which have led to some unsafe practices and behaviours.

The SPSA is actively working to promote and protect the interests of the small passenger service industry. This includes advocating for industry standards, helping small passenger service businesses stay competitive by remaining open to new technologies and being willing to adapt to the changing needs of customers. The SPSA is committed to ensuring that the industry remains compliant with all relevant laws and regulations and ensures that rideshare and taxi companies are properly licensed and insured. We have a long and proud history of providing safe and reliable small passenger transportation services, with a number of our members operating in excess of 30 years.

The SPSA is also working to promote the benefits of using small passenger services. These benefits include convenience, safety, and cost savings. The SPSA encourages customers to make informed decisions when choosing a service, and provides resources and information, educating the public about safety, to help people make the right choice.

A key factor to consider when it comes to driver longevity is the ability to provide excellent customer service. Effective communication, area knowledge, adherence to safety regulations, and ensuring customers’ expectations are met, each increase a drivers likelihood to succeed in the industry. Additionally, reliability, punctuality, and the ability to effectively manage finances also contribute to driver's longevity. The small passenger service industry is constantly evolving, and drivers must be able to adapt and stay ahead of the curve. Drivers are made aware of new regulations and changes in the industry by the SPSA and are encouraged to take the necessary steps to ensure they are meeting these new standards. Generally, drivers who are able to do all of these things have the potential to have a successful and long-lasting career in the industry. As the industry continues to grow, the opportunities for drivers to stay in the industry for a long time have increased. Our members enjoy the freedom and flexibility that being a driver offers.

Today, small passenger services are an essential part of many people's daily lives. They provide an alternative to public transportation and offer customers a convenient, reliable, and affordable way to get around. The industry is well-positioned for a bright future.
