Safety - Committed to Safer Journeys

The SPSA and its members are committed to meeting all obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015. The Association is dedicated to maintaining high standards of Health and Safety in its operations and promotes safe driving practices. We believe in providing proper training and oversight to our drivers to ensure their health and safety as well as that of our passengers. The association contributes to the government's "Road to Zero" initiative by ensuring that well-trained professional drivers operate its affiliated vehicles. The SPSA takes meaningful steps to ensure the safety of workers, passengers, and the public. It believes that real safety comes from the careful selection of professional drivers, meaningful training processes, and in-person oversight. We are committed to advocating for meaningful safety measures, transparency, and accountability in the industry and work to restore safety measures that were in place prior to the 2017 Land Transport Amendment Act whether the providers are members or not, as everyone deserves to be safe from harm.

All drivers and the persons in control of member organisations go through a rigorous vetting process, including licensing requirements, police vetting, in-person interviews and regular face-to-face reviews. The Association takes a personal approach to customer service, with local managers available to monitor and supervise drivers and address any concerns or complaints from passengers or operators. The SPSA believes that area knowledge and English language skills are critical components of providing safe transportation. Although the Land Transport Amendment Act 2017 removed these requirements, the SPSA still considers them fundamental to the job of being a professional driver.

Drivers and vehicles affiliated with the SPSA are properly marked and identifiable. All affiliated vehicles are properly registered, licensed, and certified to meet higher commercial safety standards. These vehicles are regularly inspected by a local manager or an authorised SPSA approved person to ensure safety, suitability, and compliance. The association is committed to ensuring that all its member vehicles are equipped with NZTA approved security cameras, with secure storage that can only be authorised by approved persons, not the drivers. These cameras operate at all times while the driver is on duty for additional protection and transparency for both drivers and passengers.
